Dr. Elvis Fracois, the "Singing Surgeon"

We’re thrilled to welcome Doctor Elvis Francois — widely known as “Dr. Elvis” — as the keynote speaker for the TAAHP Foundation Scholarship Luncheon, a ticketed fundraiser held during the Texas Housing Conference. This beloved luncheon raises critical funds for the TAAHP Foundation Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to students living in affordable housing across Texas.

About Dr. Elvis Francois

Dr. Elvis’s life is a powerful testament to resilience, opportunity, and service. The son of a first‑generation Haitian single father who worked 3–4 jobs at a time and sent money home to family in Haiti, young Elvis experienced eviction from the family’s one‑bedroom apartment and the instability that comes with it. He was suspended 13 times and expelled in 7th grade for behavioral issues, and he faced rejection from every medical school he applied to for two consecutive years.

Through perseverance and support from others, he transformed those early hardships into achievement. Today, Dr. Elvis is a nationally recognized celebrity physician — a spine surgeon who completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic and trained at Beth Israel Deaconess/Harvard Medical School. He first gained national attention in 2018 for an impromptu, viral rendition of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” after a trauma call shift. Since then he’s appeared on The Masked Singer, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and the Grand Ole Opry — moments that highlight his musical talent and broad public appeal.

His journey — from eviction and school expulsion to medical excellence and public recognition — is a reminder that when people are given a chance, extraordinary things can happen.

Why this luncheon matters

The Scholarship Luncheon directly funds scholarships for students living in affordable housing. For many students, a scholarship can be the difference between opportunity and limitation. Dr. Elvis’s story underscores the luncheon’s mission: investing in opportunity changes lives.
